The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Environment, this position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring a climate adaptation program within the organization and community.
The key responsibilities will include:
- Recommending and implementing plans for program areas related to climate adaptation and risk.
- Providing input and contributing to the departments annual work plan as it relates to the position’s program area.
- Leading the update and implementation of St. Albert ‘Climate Adaptation Plan,’ including the development of strategies, performance monitoring, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Conducting climate risk assessments and integrating resilience measures into City infrastructure, planning, and service delivery.
- Representing the City on internal and external climate related committees and support the development of long-range strategies and regional initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Science, Climate Science, Sustainability, Urban Studies, Engineering or a closely related field with a technical focus on climate related risk and vulnerability data, projections, modeling, and performance measures.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in environmental project or program management, climate risk assessment, climate adaptation planning and implementation.
- Experience in natural infrastructure, ecosystem services, watershed planning, asset management and land use planning are strong assets.
- A certificate in one of the following is an asset: Canadian Institute of Planners, Public Participation or Facilitation, or Engineering (environmental, civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical).
- Membership in good standing in a relevant professional organization, such as the Canadian Institute of Planners, is considered an asset.
- Sound understanding of the regional context of climate change and projected impacts.
Hours of Work
We offer a compressed bi-weekly work schedule of 72 hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00, with a biweekly regular day off (RDO).
FLEXIBLE SCHEDULE
This position may be eligible to apply for flexible hours to adjust start and end times from the core hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. by 30 or 60 minutes.
HYBRID REMOTE WORK
The City of St. Albert offers options for Hybrid Remote Work. This position may be eligible to apply for Hybrid Remote Work. That means the majority of worktime (51+%) will be completed in the designated workspace, and the remainder may be worked remotely.
Compensation
$83,549 - $102,830 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive benefit package including a flexible spending account and pension plan.
