The Opportunity

The City of St. Albert’s Human Resources & Safety department has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Corporate Security Specialist to join our team.

Reporting to the Manager of Health & Safety, the Corporate Safety Specialist is responsible for assessing, planning, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement a security program related to physical and personnel security as part of the City’s enterprise risk management framework (ERM). They will be responsible for completing security risk and impact assessments, as well as planning and developing policies and procedures. The successful incumbent will collaborate with other related risk owners across the organization to ensure a cohesive and streamlined approach.

The core responsibilities of the position include:
  • Developing an action plan to mitigate physical security risks.
  • Developing, maintaining and presenting corporate security policies, controls and their compliance.
  • Serving as the person responsible for internal security audits and the liaison to the City’s external auditors for physical and personnel security purposes.
  • Collaborating with the IT department in the creation, implementation, and management of policies and procedures related to system access.
  • Identifying security breaches and taking appropriate remediation actions.
  • Proposing and implementing viable solutions.

The individual we seek has strong understanding of practical corporate safety programs. Strong people skills and operational management capabilities combined with a strong understanding of project planning and business processes are essential for success in this position. Qualifications

  • A two-year post-secondary diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, law enforcement, security, criminal justice, or a related field, along with seven years of safety and/or corporate security experience, is required.
  • One of the following Certifications: Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian, Registered Safety Technician (CRST), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation, Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or CISSP, International CPTED Certification Program (ICCP) or Valid Security Service Worker license.
  • International CPTED Association (ICA) membership.
  • Prior experience within a municipal government safety and corporate security environment, as well as experience in personnel and facility security, would be considered assets.
  • Strong knowledge of Alberta OHS Act and Regulations & Code.
  • Experience in personnel and facility security would be considered an asset.
  • A one-year post-secondary certificate in a related field, combined with additional relevant experience, may be considered.

Hours of Work

We offer a compressed bi-weekly schedule of 72 hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00), inclusive of a regular day off (RDO). Please note that this position is required to work extended hours from time to time. This can result in the incumbent being flexible to take RDOs at certain times.

This position may be eligible to apply for Hybrid Remote Work after 3 months of satisfactory performance, within the probationary period. Hybrid Remote Work means the majority of worktime (51+%) will be completed in the designated workspace, and the remainder may be worked remotely. Applicants must reside in Alberta or be able to relocate to Alberta.

Compensation

$88,621.90 - $107,822.33 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a comprehensive benefit package.
